Over 50 activities planned in 25 venues for Stockport Town of Culture Weekender, offering free fun for all ages

Stockport is set to host a grand celebration next month as the town centre comes together for the Stockport Town of Culture Weekender – a two-day, fun-filled weekend of free cultural activities and access to must-see venues.

Featuring over 50 events and activities on the weekend of 23rd and 24th March, the Town of Culture Weekender will highlight the diverse culture and creativity thriving in Stockport. This event will also showcase the projects and work accomplished during the Town of Culture year.

To mark the end of Stockport’s Greater Manchester Town of Culture status, festivities will take place at 25 locations throughout the town. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore new spaces while enjoying a programme filled with live music, art, comedy, and history.

The newly opened town centre Park, the first green space in the UK built on a transport interchange, will host many activities over the weekend. These include a Carnival of the Animals parade, live music, comedy acts, and a variety of taster classes. Venues such as Merseyway Shopping Centre, AMP, Petersgate Tap, and Stockport Library will also offer entertainment for all ages.

Various walks, tours, and activities, including a Hatting Walk and Stockport Music Walk, will give visitors a glimpse into the town’s rich heritage. Free entry will be available to attractions such as Hat Works Museum, Air Raid Shelters, and Stockport Museum.

Councillor Mark Hunter, Leader of Stockport Council, expressed excitement for the event, stating it will showcase the borough’s cultural achievements. Councillor Frankie Singleton, Cabinet Member for Communities, Culture, and Sport, encouraged residents to partake in the festivities and celebrate a successful year in Stockport.
