Murder inquiry launched as detectives investigating the death of a man in Oldham arrest a 38 -year-old man

Detectives investigating the death of a man in Oldham have arrested an 38-year-old man on suspicion of murder.

Yesterday evening (Thursday 9 November 2023), Greater Manchester Police (GMP) were called to reports of a man unconscious in the street on Abbey Hills Road in Oldham.

Officers attended and found a 45-year-old man with a serious head injury. Despite best efforts of the emergency services he tragically passed away a short time later.

An investigation was launched and today (10 November 2023) a 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and taken into police custody where he remains at this time for questioning.

Enquiries are ongoing and officers are now appealing to members of the public who may have relevant information to make a report to police.

Superintendent Jane Higham said: “The thoughts of the entire investigation team remain with the victim’s family at this time. This has come as devastating news to the family and we are committed to getting answers for them and establishing the cause of his death.

“We are treating this as a murder investigation and it is believed that the man was assaulted. We are carrying out multiple lines of enquiry and are also appealing to anyone with information about this incident to make a report to police. This includes anyone who may have relevant footage including CCTV, mobile or dashcam. You can make a report by calling 101 quoting 3909 of 09/11/2023.”
