Manchester City officially elected Fernandinho as the new captain for this upcoming season.
The 35-year-old takes over from the departing David Silva.
The players and backroom staff vote on who should be captain.
Following the announcement manager Pep Guardiola said he’s more than delighted with the choice.
He says Brazil’s international is a natural leader.
“[Fernandinho] will be good as he always has done since I met him,” says Guardiola.
“It doesn’t matter whether he is the first captain or not. Always, he is a guy leading,” he says.
This is the Brazilian’s eighth season with the club.
