Manchester City’s record goalscorer won’t be available for a pair of critical Premier League encounters.
Sergio Aguero missed today’s FA Cup match against Birmingham as part of coronavirus protocol.
Aguero’s not tested positive for the virus however he’s been in close contact with someone who has.
The Argentine needs to self-isolate for 10 days as a result.
This news comes at a very inopportune time for the club.
City’s got three EPL matches in seven days starting later this week.
The club is also back in the hunt for the title just four points back of Liverpool with two games in hand.
Gabriel Jesus and Kyle Walker returned to the lineup today after testing positive for COVID during the holidays.
Aguero began this season on the sidelines after recovering from knee surgery.
He’s been slowly getting back to health following a hamstring problem.
He’s featured in only nine games in all competitions this season scoring two goals.
Manager Pep Guardiola said: “Unfortunately Sergio Aguero was in contact, more than usual, with a person who is (Covid-19) positive so he isolates for a few days.”
“He is negative and he is negative now too, but the protocol says if we have been in contact we have to isolate.”
The club says Scott Carson, Eric Garcia, and Cole Palmer remain in isolation following positive COVID tests.
That Aguero can’t play against Brighton on Wednesday or Crystal Palace next Sunday.
Wednesday’s match from Etihad Stadium goes at 6 pm. (JSL).
