Not over yet
Some new developments at Borussia Dortmund could spark Man United to go after Jadon Sancho once again.
The winger was aggressively recruited by the Reds during last summer’s transfer window but the asking price was too rich for their blood.
The German side wanted a transfer fee in the ballpark of £100m from United to part ways with the youngster.
Plot Twist
According to news reports, the price for the 20-year-old could be a lot more reasonable this summer.
German outlet Bild says that Dortmund will slash Sancho’s transfer fee to around £88m.
The Bundesliga side is expecting losses of £66m because of COVID.
Slow start
It’s fair to say when United came calling during the off-season Dortmund knew Sancho’s worth.
The versatile striker and midfielder had 17 goals and 17 assists in 32 league matches last season.
Predictably when you have a strong season your stock price goes up.
But as anyone who trades stocks knows a high value one day can plummet the next.
Sancho hasn’t exactly tanked this season but he’s well off his torrid pace a season ago.
In 25 appearances across all competitions, Sancho has eight goals and 13 assists so far.
When your productivity drops off so does your asking price.
Still Interested?
The question now is will Manchester United still be interested in signing Sancho?
A lot will depend on how they finish this season and how the other strikers perform.
United went through a lot of hoops to sign Amad Diallo and if he continues to impress the Reds may no longer see a need for Sancho.
Marcus Rashford isn’t going anywhere with a stellar season so far and Edison Cavani provides much needed veteran leadership.
There may not be room for Sancho anymore on this team.
Sancho is only 20 but has proven he can be a goalscorer along with a provider.
It’s unlikely he’ll sign just to ride the bench.
United does have a strong need for a winger though so Sancho fits that criteria but so does Diallo.
If the Reds don’t lift any trophies again this year we could see the front office react and take a chance on Sancho.
United won’t be the only ones considering a move for the Englishman.
According to reports Liverpool and Chelsea are also in the mix to sign him this summer.
Moving to Manchester you’d think would be a seamless transition for Sancho.
