In for the long haul
Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood will be staying at Old Trafford for at least a few more years.
The 19-year-old Academy graduate signed a new contract that will keep him with United until June 2025.
It’s a place the youngster is very familiar with having been in the club’s system since he was seven.
A dream come true
In his short time with the senior side, Greenwood’s produced some magical moments.
He’s scored 21 goals in 82 appearances for the senior side so far.
No teenager has more goals in a single season for United than Greenwood’s 17 last season. That tally put him in some elite company among United greats. He tied legends Brian Kidd, George Best and Wayne Rooney for most in a season by a teenager.
Greenwood says he couldn’t be happier to be staying at Old Trafford.
“Obviously, I’m very happy. I’ve been here since the age of seven, you know, so to sign another contract, it’s like I say, every single one is a dream come true. I always want to be here. Ever since I was a kid, I wanted to be in the first-team,” he says.
Greenwood says he couldn’t have got to where he is without the Academy coaches.
“I’ve worked so hard to reach this level and the last two years have been amazing,” says Greenwood.
The 19-year-old says he’s got one goal in mind for the future.
“Obviously, to win a trophy here would be amazing for me, it’s just something I’ve always dreamed of at United. You see all the pictures on the wall around Old Trafford, all the trophies we’ve won, and it would be nice to win one soon.”
He made his debut for United against PSG in the 2019 Champions League.
United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he’s happy with Greenwood’s progression.
“Mason is a fantastic talent and yet another fine example of the type of player that our academy produces,” he said.
“He has made great progress this season, showing real maturity and adaptability to his game which has seen him develop into one of the best young players in the country.”
Greenwood earned his first international cap with England in September. (JSL).
