Finding his form
Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan is the Premier League Player of The Month for January.
The German’s had a fantastic start to this year helping his side win nine games last month and move to the top of the Premier League table.
Gundogan is in fine form at the moment and says having a 100% record last month is a remarkable achievement.
“The highlight of January was all month because we won all of our games,” he said.
“I think it was the run and the feeling that I had inside of myself that you are so strong as a team at the moment and not just yourself. That is just an amazing feeling,” says Gundogan.
Since Kevin De Bruyne got hurt, the team hasn’t missed a beat thanks in large part to Gundogan. His versatility and intelligence have been a delight to watch on a City team that looks unbeatable. He got a chance to play a more significant role and is taking full advantage.
Gundogan scored five times last month and currently leads the team in Premier League goals with nine.
Besides his awful penalty miss, last Sunday against Liverpool things couldn’t have gone any better for the midfielder in January.
Gundogan says the individual praise doesn’t mean all that much to him.
“I am very happy, but it is always a team effort,” he said.
“I don’t know what the secret was to getting there; I just think it is the support I get from my teammates and all of the people around the team and the club.” (JSL).
