Crime Crackdown Continues in Oldham as Derker Policing Efforts Deliver Results

Police in Oldham say ongoing neighbourhood operations in Derker are continuing to make significant inroads into local crime, building on the impact of a major multi-agency initiative launched last year.

The work forms part of the wider Operation Vulcan partnership, introduced just over a year ago to tackle persistent criminality in the area. Since its launch, the initiative has led to more than 250 arrests, the seizure of thousands of pounds worth of drugs, over 200 vehicles taken off the road, and dozens of dangerous weapons removed from the streets.

Neighbourhood officers, working alongside the council, charities, volunteers and other partners, are now focused on sustaining that progress and strengthening long-term community safety.

Since January this year alone, officers have made 23 arrests for offences including drug dealing, possession of offensive weapons and shoplifting. These have resulted in a number of charges and court orders.

Enforcement activity has also seen three cannabis farms shut down, with more than 200 plants recovered. In addition, 30 vehicles have been seized for offences such as driving without insurance and dangerous driving.

Proactive policing has remained a key element of the operation, with officers carrying out 95 stop-and-searches involving both individuals and vehicles during routine patrols and targeted responses.

Alongside enforcement, police say community engagement remains central to their approach. Officers continue to hold drop-in sessions with residents and maintain close links with local schools and businesses, aiming to build trust and encourage cooperation.

Police have stressed that the combined effort is designed not only to disrupt crime in the short term, but also to create lasting improvements in safety and quality of life for those living in Derker and surrounding areas.
