Moving on
Manchester United will move on to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup after beating Luton Town 3-0 on Tuesday.
The winning goal came just before halftime when Juan Mata converted a penalty awarded to the Reds after George Moncur brought down Brandon Williams in the box.
Luton started promisingly and had a scoring opportunity in the 17th minute when Danny Hylton’s shot hit the side netting.
Jordan Clark had a nice solo effort in 30th minute but his shot deflected wide.
United took control of the game in the second half nearly doubling their lead in the 70th minute but Jesse Lingard’s effort was too high.
Three minutes later a Donny van de Beek close range effort was stopped by Shea.
Luton came close to equalizing in the 81st minute when Tom Lockyer’s header was brilliantly saved by Dean Henderson.
Marcus Rashford sealed the game in the 88th minute when the substitute was put in clean on goal by Mason Greenwood making no mistake.
Greenwood rounded out the scoring with a third United goal in the 92nd minute.
Wholesale changes
Harry Maguire was the only player to start from Saturday’s 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace.
Dean Henderson got the start in goal for the first time in a competitive match for the Red Devils.
On the spot
This was only the Reds second competitive match this season but already we’re seeing a familiar scene.
Last season they had 21 spot kicks, more than any teams in the top five European Leagues.
Tonight a penalty kick in the 44th minute was enough to see them through to the next round.
Keeping it clean
He didn’t have a lot to do but Dean Henderson was solid and compact in goal earning his first clean sheet this season.
His brilliant stop off Lockyer late in the match helped him earn his first clean sheet with United.
In the past two seasons at Sheffield United he had 35 shutouts.
