Fire At Two-Storey Building In Royton

A fire broke out at the two-storey building on Meek Street in Royton the last night. Four fire engines were at the scene and were tackling the blaze at the derelict building in Oldham. A cordon is in place around the area.

GMFRS warned people who live nearby are being urged to keep their windows and doors. Pictures from the scene showed that a huge plume of smoke from the fire billowing the air.

In a statement, a GMFRS spokesperson said: “GMFRS is tackling a fire at a derelict, two-storey building on Meek Street, Royton. We received the call at 6.36 pm, and four fire engines from Rochdale and Oldham are currently at the scene.”

“Cordons are in place and firefighters are using two hose reels and two jets to bring the fire under control. Please avoid the area, and if you live nearby please keep windows and doors closed.”
