Making history

Manchester City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne has made history by capturing the PFA Player of the Year Award.

It’s the first time a Man City player has won the award since its inception in 1973-74.

De Bruyne beat out teammate Raheem Sterling, plus Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson, Sadio Mané, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Virgil Van Dijk.

Third time’s a charm

This was the third straight time the Belgian was nominated, losing to Van Dijk last year and Mohammad Salah in 2018.

His individual stats this year were off the charts as he proved he’s perhaps the best in the world at his position.

More trophies

In what’s been an illustrious career for the 29-year-old so far, this season may have been his best.

Last month he won the Premier League Player of the season Award.

This past season he won goal of the month in November 2019 and July of this year.

“A huge honour”

De Bruyne explains what it means to win this award.

“It’s a huge honour. To be voted for by your colleagues and competitors from other teams who you play against and then for you for best player is amazing,” said De Bruyne.

“I think it is [the ultimate honour to be nominated by fellow professionals] because you compete against them, they want to win the trophies, they want to be the best.”

Despite trailing Liverpool most of the season De Bruyne always seemed to be a step ahead of his competition.

He score 13 goals in the EPL season, and equalled an EPL record with 20 assists.

De Bruyne credited Manager Pep Guardiola for his tremendous season.

“Most of the time he just lets me be me,” says De Bruyne.

“We speak often about the team but in a lot of senses he knows when he gives the orders of what the team has to do that I will listen.”
