Oldham cuts the cost of bulky waste collections

Oldham residents will soon benefit from a simpler and more affordable way to book bulky waste collections.

From Wednesday 1st April 2026, the council is changing the way bulky collections are charged to make the service easier and more accessible for households across the borough.

Currently, residents pay £23 for up to three items, with an extra £12 charge for fridge freezers and £8 for each additional item.

Under the new system, bulky collections will cost £10 per item, with no extra charges for specific items. Some smaller electrical items will cost just £5.

The changes mean residents will have clearer pricing and greater flexibility when booking collections.

Councillor Elaine Taylor, Deputy Leader of Oldham Council and Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods said: “Bulky waste collections are an important service for residents and we want to make it as simple and affordable as possible for people to use.

“These new prices are clearer and in many cases cheaper, helping residents get rid of unwanted items responsibly rather than leaving them outside or risking fly-tipping.

“We’re committed to keeping our neighbourhoods clean and making it easier for people to do the right thing.”
