Manchester organisations helping the homeless share in £550,000 Council grants boost

Fifteen voluntary, community and faith sector organisations will benefit from more than half a million pounds worth of grants awarded by the Council to support homeless people in the city.

This vital investment, made possible by the recently-announced £3 million extra Government funding to tackle homelessness in the city, is expected to help the organisations support almost 12,000 residents who find themselves sleeping rough, homeless or at risk of homelessness.

Through the Council’s work with the Manchester Homelessness Partnership, priority has been given to smaller organisations and to organisations facing financial pressures due to the rising service delivery costs and ongoing demands.

The grant funding will be used for everything from supporting outreach work to people on the streets, extending mental health support and improving facilities in day centres to helping make temporary accommodation more pet-friendly so people are not parted from their beloved dogs.

A full list of recipient organisations is included below.

Councillor Joanna Midgley, Deputy Leader of Manchester City Council said:   “We cannot tackle homelessness alone. Each of these committed organisations has received a grant to deliver immediate and vital support in their communities, helping people gain stability and dignity. The support also aims to provide long-term solutions and assist people to build new lives in settled homes.”

Stephanie Moore from Reach Out to the Community said: “We greatly appreciate the grant received from MCC at a time of increased financial uncertainty. The grant will enable us to continue our work supporting people experiencing homelessness in and around South Manchester.”

Michelle Southern OBE, Founding Chief Executive Officer of Street Paws, said:  “Street Paws is incredibly grateful to receive this generous grant from Manchester City Council. This funding will enable us to expand and build on our work with hostels across Manchester, helping more facilities become pet-friendly and ensuring that people experiencing homelessness can stay with their beloved companions while accessing vital support services. “

The total grant allocation is £547,318 and the full list of organisations receiving grants is:
