Beyond 16 Days of Action to end violence against women and girls
Community groups, businesses, and public services from across the borough have shown their support for the White Ribbon campaign to end violence against women and girls. During the 16 Days of Action, which began on 25 November, several events have taken place in support of the campaign including White Ribbon coffee mornings, walking netball sessions with England Netball, football matches and information stands in community settings.
The White Ribbon campaign encourages everyone, especially men and boys, to make the White Ribbon Promise to never use, excuse or remain silent about men’s violence against women. This year, the campaign encouraged individuals and organisations to #ChangeTheStory for women and girls, so they may live their lives free from fear and violence.
Bury councillors reaffirmed their commitment to the White Ribbon campaign ahead of the Full Council meeting, which took place on Wednesday 22 November. The Council has also submitted a bid to become White Ribbon Accredited, which further strengthens support for the campaign.
Cllr Richard Gold, Cabinet Member for Finance and Communities and White Ribbon Ambassador said “Bury Council, along with our partners, are committed to the White Ribbon message to support women’s safety and end violence against women and girls. We have submitted a bid to become White Ribbon Accredited to ensure this issue is embedded in all that we do. We’ve also recently received funding through the Safer Streets Fund, which will allow us to focus on making our town centres safer for women and girls.”
