Bruno Fernandes will be wearing the captain’s armband on Tuesday as Man United face PSG on matchday 1 of the Champions League.
Despite playing through injury and scoring a goal in a 4-1 win over Newcastle Harry Maguire has been ruled out of Tuesday’s game.
Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed the news in a press conference in Paris ahead of the big game.
“I was not expecting this,” says Fernandes.
“It’s an honour. I will be captain for my team-mates, and being captain of Manchester United is important for me, says Fernandes.”
The Reds return to the Champions League for the first time since the 2018/19 season.
They’ll be missing several players ahead of the big match.
Eric Bailly, Jesse Lingard, Mason Greenwood, and Edinson Cavani are all out.
For PSG Marco Verratti, Mauro Icardi, Leandro Paredes, Thilo Kehrer and Juan Bernat are out.
Kickoff is at 8 pm from the Parc des Princes. (JSL)
