Affordable pre‑loved paint available at Oldham’s Renew Paint Shop – and it’s perfect for spring makeovers

Oldham residents planning a home overhaul can refresh their spaces affordably and sustainably thanks to the shop at the Arkwright Street Recycling Centre.
Greater Manchester’s only Renew Paint Shop stocks leftover paint donated to 10 recycling centres across the region.
The shop sells good‑quality, second‑hand water-based paint for a minimum £3 donation per pot, and every pot is at least half full. It’s an affordable way for residents to decorate their homes while stopping usable paint from being thrown away.
Since it opened in November 2024, the shop has already made a real difference. People have taken home 5,710 litres of reused paint — enough to cover half of Blackpool Tower. This shows how residents are dedicated to reusing, recycling and cutting down on waste.
The paint shop is based at Oldham’s Renew Shop next to Arkwright Street recycling centre, OL9 9LZ, and is open every day from 9.30am to 12.30pm and 1pm to 6pm. Anyone with leftover paint can donate it in the Renew container at the recycling centre to help someone else with their home project.

Next door is Oldham’s Renew Shop which sells donated homeware, garden furniture, toys, sports equipment and books. The aim of both shops is to reduce waste and give items a second life. Most of the things donated would have otherwise been thrown away.
The money raised goes back into the community through the Greater Manchester Mayor’s Charity and the Renew Community Fund, helping support local projects across the region.

Cllr Elaine Taylor, Oldham Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, said: “Residents are embracing reuse like never before — and every purchase at the Renew Paint Shop is making a real difference in our communities. If you’re planning a spring makeover for your home, visit the Renew Paint Shop — it’s good for your pocket and good for the planet.”
This is a joint initiative between Recycle for Greater Manchester and waste contractor SUEZ. It focuses on repairing and reselling preloved household items collected at recycling centres to benefit the local community.
Claire Williams, Renew Manager at SUEZ said: “We launched the Renew Paint shop to see if residents would embrace reused paint, and the feedback has been fantastic. By offering high-quality, water-based paint at affordable prices, we’re proving that sustainability works, saving items from waste and helping to benefit local communities”
