Youngsters and families in temporary housing receive a half term pick-me-up with complimentary leisure activities.
In a bid to support children and families residing in temporary accommodation, Oldham Council has collaborated with Oldham Community Leisure (OCL) to provide free leisure activities during the half-term break. With special passes to OCL’s five centres, over 500 eligible families can enjoy up to 10 activities such as swimming, gym access, exercise classes, and badminton. Cllr Arooj Shah, Leader of Oldham Council, highlighted the challenges faced by families in temporary accommodation and expressed hope that these passes would provide some much-needed fun and family memories. Families can easily collect their passes from the main OCL site and access a range of activities across Oldham, Failsworth, Chadderton, Saddleworth, and Royton. Stuart Lockwood, Chief Executive of Oldham Community Leisure, emphasized the importance of creating memories together as a family and encouraged families to take advantage of the offer during the half-term break. Additionally, the Council has pledged to build 500 new social homes in the borough over the next five years and continues to support families struggling with the cost of living through various initiatives.
