Westhoughton locals set to have exclusive preview of £3.5m town hall proposals
Scheduled for Tuesday, March 19 from 5.30pm to 7pm at Westhoughton Library, the session will be the first opportunity to take a look at the new internal designs for the building.
Attendees will also be able to gain insight into the project, including the estimated costs and the planned timetable for the work.
The refurbishment and preservation of the well-loved landmark is a crucial aspect of Bolton Council’s broader Westhoughton Town Centre Masterplan.
Last year, the council allocated £3.5m to the project, with £1.5m from the District Centres Fund, which is also supporting initiatives in Farnworth, Horwich, and Little Lever.
This £3.5m project is a significant investment and allows us to carry out the necessary repair work while also securing the town hall’s long-term future.
Constructed in 1903, Westhoughton Town Hall is in need of substantial maintenance and care.
An essential part of the redevelopment strategy is to repurpose excess space for office use by businesses, generating revenue to help cover ongoing maintenance expenses.
The renovation plan includes enhancements to the council chamber and other sections of the building, ensuring the town hall remains a hub for civic and community activities.
Bolton Council Leader, Cllr Nick Peel, commented:
“We are aware of the strong attachment Westhoughton residents have to this historic structure and its important role in the local community.
“This £3.5m project is a significant investment and allows us to carry out the necessary repair work while also securing the town hall’s long-term future.
“I encourage everyone to attend this event to discover the positive impact this investment will have on Westhoughton.”
