William Bates, who referred to himself in his music as a drug lord, was found guilty of a series of drug-related offences after authorities uncovered his extensive operation spanning Leigh, Wigan, and Burnley. Bates was found to have exploited children and vulnerable adults to package and distribute heroin and cocaine.
The investigation began in January 2023, leading to an October 2023 raid at his home in Astley, where police discovered large quantities of drugs, cash, and incriminating messages on his mobile phone. Despite being charged and released on bail, Bates continued his illegal activities.
His downfall came in October 2024 when undercover officers witnessed him conducting a drug deal in Leigh. A police chase ensued, leading to his arrest and the seizure of over 100 wraps of cocaine from his possession. A subsequent search at an address in Astley uncovered additional drugs, weapons, and drug paraphernalia.
Further analysis of his phone revealed messages directing teenagers to deal drugs on his behalf. Police also discovered rap lyrics in which Bates boasted about his ability to evade law enforcement—a claim that ultimately proved false when he was swiftly apprehended.
Authorities emphasize their commitment to tackling child criminal exploitation and drug-related crime, urging the public to report any suspicious activity. Information can be provided anonymously via Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111 or through the Greater Manchester Police’s online reporting service.
