Social Work Week celebrates the amazing work taking place

Bury’s social workers have been nationally recognised during this week’s Social Work Week.

Taiyab Patel in the adult safeguarding team and the Towards Independence Team have achieved national Amazing Social Worker recognition for their achievements.

Amazing Social Workers is a campaign run by the British Association of Social Workers to recognise individual and collective achievements in social work.

The awards aim to highlight the achievements of individuals and teams in the profession, while also raising the profile and public understanding of the critical role of social work in our communities.

Taiyab, as a newly qualified social worker, was nominated for his continued development during his Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE) period.

He was praised for his work in protecting vulnerable adults, with positive feedback from service users, families, his social work peers and his managers.

The Towards Independence Project started two years ago and has made significant strides in improving the support for people with learning disabilities.

They are dedicated to providing support early and ongoing which has led to better quality of life for people with learning disabilities.

Councillor Tamoor Tariq, Bury Council’s cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said: “During Social Work Week it’s wonderful to hear that several of our social workers have been nominated for national awards.

“Social work is a complex and important part of the council’s work protecting vulnerable residents and supporting them to live as independently as possible.

“Congratulations to them and a big thank you goes out to all our social workers for all the vital work that you do.”

British Association of Social Workers UK Vice-Chair Lewis Roberts added:

“Every day, social workers across the UK go above and beyond advocating for the adults, children and families they support. Their role is key to upholding human rights, promoting social justice and making a positive difference to people’s lives.

“Congratulations to everyone who has been deservedly nominated for recognition this year.”
