EPEC is a parenting programme designed to equip parents with practical skills and techniques to navigate daily challenges and nurture confident, happy, and cooperative children.

EPEC workshops and courses are led by parent group leaders who are trained in positive parenting skills. These leaders use their unique lived experiences and community knowledge to make the sessions relevant and meaningful for local parents. Parents can attend sessions in their own communities or online.

The parent group leader model not only helps those attending the courses but also boosts the confidence, employability and skills of the Parent Group Leaders, leading to lasting positive changes for them and their wider communities.

Course attendees say:
“It was amazing. It changed my life. It changed my family’s life.”
“It has been phenomenal. It’s really helped me to grow in confidence.”
“I did find the course very useful. It helped with my child’s emotions.”
“After I’d completed the course, I went into the training to become a Parent Group Leader which I found really useful and really enjoyed passing the knowledge on to other parents.”

Cllr Wendy Meikle, Cabinet Member for Children, Families and Education, says:
“Sometimes, as a parent, you can feel really on your own. By attending EPEC courses, you learn practical skills and techniques from other parents who have had similar experiences, which can really improve your family life. Next week is a fantastic opportunity to discover the free support EPEC offers.”

EPEC courses are tailored to different stages of parenting, from babies to teenagers, and address additional challenges such as autism and co-parenting. They help parents manage stress, understand and manage children’s feelings, improve communication and listening skills, and create consistent family routines.
