Rebuilding Scheme Announced for Bolton Schools Housing RAAC
The Department for Education has confirmed today that a number of schools in the borough are included in a fresh round of the School Rebuilding Programme (SRP).
Thornleigh Salesian College, St. Bernard’s RC Primary School, St Andrews CEP, and Canon Slade are among the schools that have been selected.
Grants will also be provided to St William of York RCP and St Stephen and All Martyrs CEP to remove RAAC.
St James CEP, which had three classrooms with RAAC demolished in 2022, had already been included on the SRP list.
In addition, Thomasson Memorial Special School has been included in the programme due to unrelated issues.
Cllr Martin Donaghy, Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, expressed his satisfaction with the news:
“This is a fantastic outcome for Bolton, with many of our schools now benefiting from investment through the School Rebuilding Programme.
“Every young person in Bolton deserves the best possible learning environment, and our exceptional teachers should be able to focus on their jobs rather than worrying about school facilities.
“The council has been actively advocating for RAAC funding for Bolton, and a tremendous amount of effort has been put into achieving this result.
“RAAC has been a source of concern for everyone in recent months, and now we can look forward to the work commencing as soon as possible.”
