Proudly perched in Oldham: Help name the new Civic Centre peregrine chicks

Three peregrine falcon chicks on the Oldham Civic Centre building

We want to know your name ideas for our three feathered friends.

High above Oldham, a remarkable event has taken place.

A pair of peregrine falcons have successfully hatched three fluffy new chicks on Oldham’s Civic Tower — and now the community is invited to help name these exciting new additions to our local wildlife.

Oldham Council is inviting residents to come forward with their most creative suggestions for a chance to win a £50 Oldham Gift Card to spend at the fantastic range of shops across Oldham’s high streets.

Peregrines are the fastest bird in the world, reaching speeds of up to 240 miles per hour. They nest on cliff ledges, quarry faces and cliffs, and have adapted to urban environments, using tall buildings and bridges.

Oldham residents flocked to express their delight on our I Love Oldham Facebook page. One said: “Brilliant news!” and another wrote: “Amazing!”

The Mayor of Oldham Cllr Eddie Moores will have the honour of picking the perfect names from your suggestions and is looking for creativity, charm, and a touch of Oldham spirit.

He said: “We’re thrilled to welcome these remarkable birds, and I’m inviting everyone in our community to join in the fun and help name our new feathered residents. I’ll be personally choosing the most fitting and creative names – so let your imagination soar!”

Send us your name ideas by clicking here.

Winners will be revealed shortly after the deadline on Thursday 19 June, so stay tuned to see which names take flight!
