Pennington Flash makes the perfect setting for Memory Walk

Pennington Flash has been announced as the location for the first Memory Walk of the year in support of the Alzheimer’s Society.

The annual fundraiser by Be Well has a new summer date this year, with the Leigh event set to take place on Sunday 9th June at 11am.

Previously, Memory Walks in the east of the borough were held in Pennington Hall Park in the autumn. But this year, the event will take place at the nearby nature reserve at an earlier date, allowing for a bigger and better walk to raise funds for those affected by dementia.

Councillor Chris Ready, from Wigan Council, said: “Last year’s Memory Walk was a great success, and this year we are aiming to make the Leigh event the biggest and best yet. Pennington Flash is a beloved beauty spot in our borough, and the perfect setting for our fundraising walk.”

Participants can choose between a 5km walk or a shorter stroll, with family-friendly activities such as face painting and an orienteering challenge for children. The event promises to be one of the largest walks ever held at Pennington Flash, matching the scale of previous walks at Haigh Woodland Park.

Last year, the event raised over £4,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society, and every donation counts towards making a difference in the lives of those affected by dementia.

The Memory Walk is free to join, and participants who register in advance will receive a certificate of participation. Donations can also be made to the official Just Giving page. Sign up now for a day of walking and fundraising for a world without dementia.
