Pendleton House plans move forwards
Plans for Pendleton House have taken another step forwards.
The council’s Property and Regeneration briefing on Monday 25 November agreed to assign the leasehold interest to ForLiving.
The property on Broughton Road was originally built in 1936. It was sold by the council to Pendleton House Limited in 2017 with a legal agreement that works would be completed in August 2019.
Works have not taken place so ForLiving has now agreed to buy the property.
Planning consent has already been given for 88 social rent apartments and the council will enter into a long-term lease with ForLiving.
The renovation will retain the building’s original facade while adding new elements to accommodate modern residential needs. This project aims to preserve the historical significance of Pendleton House while providing much-needed housing in the area.
Councillor Jack Youd, Deputy City Mayor and Lead Member for Finance, Support Services and Regeneration at Salford City Council, said: “The council has had extensive dialogue with the owners to find a satisfactory outcome and are pleased to be work to transfer the property to ForLiving who will now take forward the project at pace.
“This is positive news and another step forwards to securing 88 social rent apartments for local people. Planning consent is secured and we look forward to the building being redeveloped and people moving in. Local people are desperate for affordable homes and this fits in with our vision to work strategically with partners to try and solve this national housing crisis.”
