New 3G pitch coming to Ramsbottom

Ramsbottom will be the home of the latest 3G all-weather football pitch to be installed in the borough.

The £1.4 million project is at Top Park Playing Fields, and will include improvements to the pavilion and car park.

Bury Council is putting £425,000 behind the scheme, with around £1 million coming from the Football Foundation.

The Top Park 3G pitch project has been developed in partnership with the County FA and Football Foundation and with Ramsbottom United, who will manage the facilities.

Councillor Alan Quinn, cabinet member for the environment, operations and climate change, said: “The development of 3G pitches is a priority for the council.

“This project will provide a much-needed facility for the community of Ramsbottom. It will create new opportunities for males and females of all ages and abilities to enjoy recreational football and other physical activities.”

Existing 3G facilities are already in place at Goshen Playing Field, Redbank Playing Field and at Elton High School.

Cllr Quinn added: “The Ramsbottom facility will provide significant physical and mental health benefits for the local community. We want to target those who are not physically active and/or who have physical and mental health challenges. We also want to reach all young people in the community to promote enjoyment of activity as a basis for life-long participation. Target audiences include young people, women and girls, older people, and people with disabilities and long-term health issues.”
