Mayor’s Citizen Award presented to volunteer Elaine Brettell by Ceremonial Mayor of Salford
A Salford resident who dedicated her life to the care of local people has been presented with a special award.
The Ceremonial Mayor of Salford, Councillor Gina Reynolds invited Elaine Brettell to the Mayor’s Parlour to present her with a Mayor’s Citizen Award.
In recognition of her unwavering dedication and exceptional service, the Ceremonial Mayor of Salford has presented the Mayor’s Citizen Award to Elaine Brettell, a remarkable individual whose selflessness has left an indelible mark on the community.
Elaine Brettell’s lifelong commitment to serving others began when she worked as registered nurse at Salford Royal, where she devoted 45 years of her life to the care and well-being of patients.
Elaine also became a volunteer for the Women’s Royal Voluntary Service, putting in 25 years of service to the NHS and the people of Salford. At 85 years old, her dedication remains steadfast, inspiring all who know her.
The Ceremonial Mayor of Salford, Councillor Gina Reynolds said: “As soon as I heard about Elaine’s commitment to local people I agreed that she was more than worthy for the award. It was a pleasure to invite her to the Mayor’s Parlour so I could thank her on behalf of the city and present her with the Citizen’s Award.
“Salford is a great city and it is people like Elaine that go above and beyond to make it the special place it is. Her tireless efforts and compassionate spirit has made a huge difference to people’s lives. She is a true inspiration and I’m so proud we have her living here.
As well as her contributions to healthcare, Elaine is also involved in various community initiatives, including volunteering at a local charity shop which highlights her commitment to making a difference.
Salford City Mayor Paul Dennett said: “I was truly honoured to have met Elaine Brettell who has nursed at Hope Hospital, now Salford Royal Hospital, for 45 years (1954-1999) and completed 25 years volunteering at the Women’s Royal Voluntary Service (WRVS), all at the young age of 85. Well done and thank you Elaine.”
Lucy Boulter, head of volunteering at Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Salford Royal Hospital, said: “Elaine has devoted 70 years of her life to enhancing the quality of care for our patients and visitors. I have witnessed first-hand the impact she has made and continues to make on the local community and the people we serve. I am full of admiration for her dedication, kindness and commitment to helping others and feel immensely proud to be a part of her story and have the pleasure of working alongside her.”
