Mayor inaugurates brand-new community centre in the heart of Bury

Ingeus joined in the celebration of the opening of the Bury NeighbourHub at Mill Gate Shopping Centre, which took place on Monday 8 January 2024. The Mayor of Bury, Councillor Sandra Walmsley, marked the occasion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. This new community hub aims to create a welcoming space where local residents can seek assistance and guidance on various matters, including housing, employment, finances, and health. The mayor expressed her gratitude for the establishment of this central point, which will be open five days a week, providing a wide range of employment and skills support services.

The Bury NeighbourHub is a joint venture between Bury Works, Bury Council, and Ingeus, a provider of employment services. It has been funded by the Community Investment Fund (CIF). The hub operates from Monday to Friday and offers access to agencies such as Jobcentre Plus, Citizens Advice, the National Careers Service, and local health support services. This one-stop-shop of support aims to cater to the needs of Bury residents.

Ingeus will use the NeighbourHub to provide information about the Working Well Work and Health Programme, which includes the newly commissioned Pioneer support program. The Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) has initiated this program to assist individuals receiving out of work benefits or those who are economically inactive in finding sustainable employment.

Apart from offering support services, the Bury NeighbourHub also serves as a space for people from different backgrounds to connect, engage in community projects, and discover how their skills and ideas can contribute to the improvement of Bury as a place to live.

The opening event of the NeighbourHub was attended by representatives from Bury Council, Jobcentre Plus, local charities, and specialist services. The event showcased the diverse range of services available.

Cllr Charlotte Morris, cabinet member for culture and the economy, commended the initiative and emphasized the importance of supporting individuals who have been unemployed for an extended period in finding meaningful employment, particularly in the current economic climate.

Nicola Wood, Head of Delivery for Ingeus, expressed her delight at the turnout for the launch event. She highlighted Ingeus’ mission to enhance lives and emphasized that the NeighbourHub provides another avenue to support more individuals in finding suitable local employment.

This press release was issued on 10 January 2024.
