An outbreak of COVID means Manchester City has forced the league to postpone the team’s match tonight at Everton.
The latest round of COVID-19 testing for City came back with a number of positive tests according to the club.
Following this news, the team made a request to the Premier League to reschedule tonight’s match at Goodison Park.
The League board says they got medical advice suggesting the match shouldn’t go ahead as scheduled.
It’s unknown how many City players or staff have tested positive for the virus.
It was confirmed Kyle Walker and Gabriel Jesus contracted the virus prior to their match with Newcastle.
At that same time, two City staff members also had positive tests.
A Manchester City statement reads: “With the security of the bubble compromised, there posed a risk that the virus could spread further amongst the squad, the staff and potentially beyond.
“Based on strong medical advice the Premier League, in consultation with both clubs, have decided to postpone the fixture.”
There’s a belief that the outbreak may have come from the team’s recent trip to London to face Arsenal in the Carabao Cup.
London is currently under a Tier-4 restriction with a major increase of COVID in the city’s southeast.
The Premier League board says it has “full confidence in its protocols and rules and the way in which all clubs are implementing them.”
They say they’ll reschedule the match in due course.
City players will go through more testing tomorrow.
The club’s first-team training ground has been closed and will now undergo a deep clean. (JSL).
