Local authority agrees to adhere to Citizens Advice Council Tax Protocol
The Council Tax Protocol by Citizens Advice is a helpful guide for collecting Council Tax, encouraging collaboration between councils, debt advice organisations, and enforcement agencies.
Signing the protocol shows a dedication to fairness, partnership, and transparency in local authority debt collection, as well as early intervention to assist those in arrears.
Councillor Jilly Julian, Cabinet Member for Finance and Resources at Stockport Council, stated, “We are committed to supporting residents struggling with Council Tax payments. This protocol emphasises working together to help people pay their bills and avoid further financial issues.”
Councillor Mark Hunter, Leader of Stockport Council, added, “We are pleased to sign the protocol, demonstrating our commitment to fair debt recovery practices. We aim to work closely with partners to continually improve our procedures.”
