Let’s get East Bury moving
Bury Council, in partnership with Bury VCFA, has opened a new £20,000 community funding pot to unlock extra opportunities for people to move more in East Bury.
The new fund is another component of the Bury Local Pilot Scheme funded by Sport England and National Lottery funding.
Grants of up to £1,000 are on offer for activities delivered in East Bury that will contribute to 30 minutes of daily physical activity.
Community groups, faith groups, charities, social enterprises, voluntary groups, clubs, societies, and schools can all apply – before 14 November.

Councillor Tamoor Tariq, cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said: “The local pilot scheme in East Bury aims to improve people’s lives and enrich communities by increasing activity levels. It’s all part of Sport England’s #ActiveNation strategy to get more people active, no matter what their age, background or ability – because everyone should feel able to be active and enjoy the health benefits that it brings.
“Through this fund we want to work with as wide a variety of organisations as possible, and I’d urge those eligible to apply before the deadline so that we can get lots of locally delivered projects off the ground as soon as we can.”
All applications to the fund must be for projects to be delivered within the East Bury area of the Bury borough. Projects must provide the opportunity to increase physical activity and preference will be given to those that target:
Young people, and families, who live or work in Bury East Residents and families with young children, and particularly those aged 0 to 4 People who are unemployed or at risk of becoming unemployed Anyone living with a long-term health condition People who are living or working in Bury East
Councillor Tariq added: “All kinds of projects can potentially receive funding through this fund, just as long as they have a focus on tackling inactivity.
