At around 11:15am this morning (Sunday 6 November 2022), GMP officers received a report of concern for the welfare of a man in the River Mersey in Stockport.
Emergency services and specialist officers attended, and a man was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.
There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.
Officers have been unable to identify the man and are now appealing to members of the public to help us identify the male.
The man is described as a white male, aged between 40 and 50 years old, wearing dark coloured walking trousers with a nylon belt, socks but no shoes.
The man also has distinctive tattoos on his upper arm that say ‘Rachel’ another tattoo on his right lower arm of a bulldog and a union jack and another tattoo the left side of his chest saying ‘Jodie’.
He also had ‘Golden Virginia Tobacco’ on his person when he was located.
