Gallery Oldham: Minute to Midnight
This new thought-provoking exhibition brings together a group of north-west artists, all of whom are deeply concerned with intervention in the climate crisis.
The title of the exhibition is derived from the Doomsday Clock, which was developed in 1947 as an indicator showing how close humanity is to self-destruction.
Then it was set at seven seconds to midnight. The hands are currently set at 90 seconds to midnight.
This is the nearest that the planet has been to disaster since the Clock has been used as an indicator. Each January decisions are made as to the time set on the Doomsday Clock.
Many World factors are considered, one of which is climate change.
For this exhibition, which runs from December 7 to March 25, we invited five artists to show works which consider the climate emergency.
It features very varied and compelling work by Rebecca Chesney, Antony Hall, Mishka Henner, Adele Jordan and Rae Story.
Endangered species of birds and pressed flowers from Gallery Oldham’s natural history collection will also be on show.
