Find a new job at Stockport Council’s Home Support Worker Recruitment Day

If you are ready to take the next step in your career or maybe just starting out and looking to find a role as part of a supportive team who can offer real benefits, the council is looking for Home Support Workers who are a vital part of the community, helping some of the borough’s most vulnerable adults to live happy and healthy lives independently in their own homes.

The event on 13 November at Stockport Central Library, on Wellington Road, Stockport from 11am to 3pm will be an exciting and unique opportunity to explore the exciting roles available here at Stockport Council.

You can book in advance for this event at Eventbrite but you can also just turn up on the day and find out more about what it is like to be part of our team here at Stockport Council. Applicants will need a full UK driving license and access to their own transport to apply for a role.

Home Support Worker John Ditcher has worked for the Reablement and Community Home Support (REaCH) service for six years. The REaCH service is a multi-disciplinary Adult Social Care team providing care and support in people’s own homes. The service provides short-term support for people who need help to regain their confidence and independence by preventing skills being lost through illness, injury or disability, either with training, equipment or ongoing support.

He said: “I started on the Neighbourhood Team then moved to Reablement, Active Recovery and now I’m on the End of Life Team. The training is excellent, especially manual handling, as we get to try using all the latest equipment and get a feel of how it is to be moved using this equipment, so we have an understanding of how the service user feels.

“My colleagues are very personable and efficient, and we share our own WhatsApp group so that we can keep in touch, and not just about work. The job is very rewarding, it’s a brilliant feeling to know that you are making a difference to people’s lives.”

Home Support Worker Wendy Ditchfield added: “I’ve put in 22 years in December. I love my job and the satisfaction it brings knowing as a carer I have made a difference in someone’s life.”
