Exciting plans revealed for this year’s Cycle Three Sisters, promising a summer of holiday fun ahead
This year’s Cycle Three Sisters events are gearing up to be even more popular than before, thanks to a new summer slot. Be Well’s free bike extravaganza is a highlight on the calendar, drawing families to Ashton-in-Makerfield’s Three Sisters Circuit for a range of exciting activities both on and off the track.
With over a thousand people expected at the first event on Tuesday 7th May 2024, the annual double header will kick off the school holidays on Tuesday 23rd July, instead of the usual September date. Councillor Chris Ready, Wigan Council’s portfolio holder for communities and neighbourhoods, expressed excitement for the upcoming events, stating, “We know how much local families enjoy Cycle Three Sisters and we want to make it accessible to as many people as possible. Our May events have always been popular, and by moving the second outing to the start of the summer holidays, we hope to attract even more residents to our cycling celebration.”
Cyclists of all ages and abilities will have the opportunity to ride on the racetrack, with activities such as cycle skills, balance bikes for under 5s, free bike services, and family entertainment like a climbing wall and face painting. Bikes and helmets will be available for borrowing, including adapted bikes for those with disabilities.
Coun Ready highlighted the inclusivity of Cycle Three Sisters, saying, “This event is for everyone, regardless of age or ability. Whether you’re a seasoned participant or a first-timer, you’re guaranteed to have a fantastic time.”
Most activities will start at 3pm, with a special session for balance bikes, bikes with stabilisers, and adapted bikes from 1.30pm onwards. Free parking is available on site, but local families are encouraged to walk or cycle to the event if possible.
