Dolly Parton and Stormzy among the influential icons celebrated by school championing inclusivity
St Matthew’s Primary School in Chadderton is celebrating inclusivity by honouring inspiring figures such as Dolly Parton and Stormzy. The school’s classrooms are named after trailblazers like Michelle Obama and Rose Ayling-Ellis, who made history as the first deaf contestant on Strictly Come Dancing. The school also embraces the message of equality and encourages its pupils to believe in themselves. As a result, the school recently received a ‘Good’ rating from Ofsted. The headteacher, Simon Buxton-Moore, started a lunchtime club where children learn about influential people who have overcome barriers and prejudices, including Dolly Parton and Muhammad Ali. Cllr Mohon Ali, Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, visited the school to congratulate the staff and witness their excellent work in practice. The school also has dedicated wellbeing champions who support their peers and ensure a safe and caring environment. Overall, St Matthew’s Primary School is a happy place where everyone is valued and celebrated.
