Bury’s roads to benefit from upgraded LED street lighting for increased energy efficiency
Around 3,300 more street lamps are set to be upgraded to LED lighting by Bury Council by 31 March 2025, as part of a £7 million 6-year street lighting improvement scheme. Already, 1,650 columns and lamps have been converted, with the next areas to benefit in the next year including Pilsworth Road, Lowercroft Road, Kersal Vale Road, High Street, and Bury New Road. The new LED lights are more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly, reducing CO2 emissions and light pollution. Councillor Alan Quinn, responsible for the environment and climate change, highlighted the council’s commitment to reducing energy consumption and improving lighting quality. By 2025, almost 90% of the borough’s street lighting will be LED, saving money on maintenance and energy bills. More information can be found at www.bury.gov.uk/streetlighting-replacement.
