Our Young People’s Voices SEND and Inclusion Conference had a special guest this year – Leon Harrop, star of the BBC’s Ralph & Katie.

Leon is a proud Oldhamer from Royton. As a former student of New Bridge School in Hollinwood, Leon has become an inspiration for young people across the borough and beyond, showing what’s possible with determination and talent.

The event, held at Oldham Athletic Football Club, brought together children from schools across the borough, as well as Oldham Council staff to celebrate inclusion and share experiences of living with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

Councillor Mohon Ali, Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, said: “Our Young People’s Voices Conference highlights the amazing talents and resilience of our young people with SEND. Having someone like Leon, who grew up in our community, shows just how far ambition can take you. He’s a fantastic role model and we’re so proud to have him here today.”

Leon shared his journey into acting and encouraged the young people at the event to follow their passions. The conference was a celebration of inclusion, inspiring everyone to work towards a brighter, more inclusive future for all.
