Local authority initiates public feedback process for proposed red route initiative
Trafford Council has launched a consultation on plans for a red route scheme to improve two of the borough’s busiest roads for road users, residents, and local businesses. Red routes aim to enhance the experience of all road users by improving journey times and bus reliability, reducing congestion, and managing vehicle movements to improve air quality.
The proposed scheme for parts of the A56 and A5081 roads in Stretford and Trafford Park would create a safer environment for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers by discouraging obstructive and dangerous parking. The Council, in collaboration with Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM), is seeking public feedback on the plan.
Concerns have been raised about congestion and road safety issues, particularly during events in the Old Trafford area. The introduction of red routes aims to address inappropriate parking and improve traffic flow in the area.
Residents are encouraged to share their views on the proposed scheme by 8th April 2024 via email or post to the designated address. Cllr Steve Adshead, Executive Member for Highways, Environmental and Traded Services, highlighted the Council’s commitment to addressing parking and congestion issues to improve the environment and traffic flow.
TfGM’s Highways Network Director, Peter Boulton, emphasised the importance of providing a safe and efficient highway network for all road users. Red routes on key main roads can help reduce congestion, improve air quality, and support Greater Manchester’s integrated public transport system.
