Culture collective to assume control of tenancy at Altrincham Town Hall
A new community arts group is set to take over the lease at Altrincham Town Hall, as announced by Trafford Council.
Last year, the Council invited local businesses and community groups to bid for the lease of Altrincham Town Hall, with the eventual winner being Altrincham-based group Oyez Arts.
The Council has clarified that they are not selling the historic Town Hall, but rather leasing it to maintain control over the building in the future.
Oyez Arts plans to transform Altrincham into a hub for arts and culture, collaborating with local artists and creatives to offer a variety of high-quality arts activities. The group aims to create a welcoming space for people to gather, create, and flourish, as well as provide a much-needed events venue in the town centre that is open to all. Additionally, Oyez will continue to host weddings and public events currently held at Altrincham Town Hall.
Councillor Tom Ross, Leader of Trafford Council, congratulated Oyez Arts on securing the lease, praising the group for their community initiatives and expressing excitement for future collaborations.
Jo Cushing, co-founder of Oyez Arts, expressed enthusiasm for bringing the group to Altrincham, highlighting the significance of the name ‘Oyez’ as a call to unite the community and celebrate together. She emphasized the group’s commitment to bringing new life to the Town Hall through vibrant events and endless possibilities.
