Local authority backing the Great British Spring Clean initiative
Trafford Council is calling on residents, businesses, schools, and community groups to join in Keep Britain Tidy’s Great British Spring Clean campaign. The campaign, running from 15-31 March, encourages people in Trafford to take pride in their community by participating in a mass litter pick.
Trafford is supporting the charity’s #BigBagChallenge, urging the public to pledge to pick up one bag or more of litter from streets, parks, and beauty spots to help protect our communities and wildlife habitats.
Residents, businesses, and schools in the borough can show their support by cleaning up litter around their homes and premises. Trafford Council is providing free litter pickers and bags, which can be ordered by signing The Be Responsible Pledge on their website.
This year’s campaign coincides with Keep Britain Tidy’s 70th anniversary, and Trafford is teaming up with the charity to emphasise that the environment belongs to everyone. People can make a #PlatinumPledge by picking up 70 items, 70 bags, or spending 70 minutes litter-picking outdoors.
Cllr Stephen Adshead, Executive Member for Highways, Environmental & Traded Services at Trafford Council, expressed pride in participating in The Great British Spring Clean annually. He encouraged residents to join in the litter pick to make Trafford even more beautiful.
The Great British Spring Clean, now in its ninth year, brings together individuals, community organisations, businesses, and councils to make a positive impact on the environment. Keep Britain Tidy’s Chief Executive, Allison Ogden-Newton OBE, highlighted the importance of community support in making the campaign a success.
