After making contact with the man in question, he tried to make off from officers but was detained shortly after. Following a search of the suspect, he was in possession of a considerable amount of drugs on his person.
A man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A, B and C drugs, he remains in police custody for questioning.
Following his arrest, a subsequent search of his address took place with officers uncovering a significant amount of prescription drugs and £2,300 in cash.
It is believed that more than 20,000 prescription drugs including the like of Diazepam, Pregabalin and Tramadol, alongside some cannabis and ecstasy tablets.
A second man in his 20s was also arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A, B and C drugs, he remains in police custody for questioning.
Investigations are ongoing at this stage.
Chief Inspector Rob MacGregor from Greater Manchester Police said:
“These arrests are a great example of our neighbourhood officers proactively patrolling local communities, identifying suspicious activity, and taking decisive action to remove drugs from our streets.
“Following the initial arrest, officers recovered a substantial quantity of suspected illegal drugs and, through further enquiries, seized what is believed to be more than 20,000 prescription tablets along with cash from an address linked to the investigation.
“The illegal supply of drugs can have a devastating impact on our communities, fuelling crime and exploiting vulnerable people. We remain committed to tackling those involved in the drugs trade and disrupting criminal activity wherever we find it.
“Our investigation remains ongoing and I would encourage anyone with information about drug-related activity in their area to report it to us so that we can continue taking action to keep our neighbourhoods safe.”
