Grand Success of the Inauguration of the Brand-New Central Library

After undergoing a £4.43m renovation and relocating to the Crompton Place Shopping Centre, the anticipation among residents to return and enjoy the newly revamped facilities was palpable.

The event was filled with various activities, including the lively Compact Disco, captivating Octagon story telling sessions, engaging History Explorers sessions, and the chance to meet the beloved Lofty the Lion.

Book enthusiasts were thrilled by the new library, with shelves quickly emptying as hundreds of books were borrowed by delighted customers.

Thanks to funding from the government’s Towns Fund, the new library boasts an expanded children’s area, improved social spaces, updated digital facilities, and the brand-new Café Crescent.

Cllr Nadeem Ayub, Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member for Culture, expressed his admiration for the innovative spaces within the splendid cultural building: “I am extremely impressed with the new Central Library. Having such a diverse range of offerings in the heart of the town will create numerous opportunities for people from all walks of life and provide the necessary support for them to lead a happy and healthy life.”

Cllr Akhtar Zaman, Bolton Council’s Deputy Leader, described the newly renovated Central Library as a stunning space that will not only attract people to the centre, but also serve as a valuable resource for residents of the new residential developments. With Moor Lane just a short walk away, along with the transformed market, the new Elizabeth Park, and the upcoming Wellsprings innovation hub, this is an incredibly exciting time for this area of Bolton.”

The building upgrade will better cater to the needs of the diverse population of Bolton, including residents, workers, students, and visitors.
