Festive food and fun for more than 2,000 young people in Salford

Salford City Council is set to launch a festive food and fun campaign for its young people this Christmas.

Scheduled to run from Thursday 20 December the fourteen day extravaganza will see 2,000 youngsters take part in free fun and receive nutritious meals.

The council has partnered with local community and voluntary organisations along with trusted and experienced catering company Citywide for the Holiday Activity Programme (HAF).

The programme is designed to support families during the school holidays where many parents and guardians have to work. The programme combines fun, learning, and food.

Activities range from sports, music, arts and crafts theatre trips and more ensuring children have a fun over the winter break.

Cllr Jim Cammell, Lead Member for Children’s and Young People’s Services said: “Christmas is a special time for everyone and we want to make sure that all of our young people have a ‘cracking’ time and that no child goes without fun or food during the festivities.”

“This initiative demonstrates the power of community and partnership in addressing holiday hunger and creating meaningful experiences for children and young people. It’s not just about the meals—it’s about connection, learning, and ensuring every child has the chance to thrive during the break.

“Parents and guardians can relax knowing that their children will be in a safe, fun and warm environment.”

Citywide will play a pivotal role in delivering this large-scale operation. In addition to providing meals during activities, they will prepare food boxes to support families with nutritious ingredients for delicious home-cooked meals. With their logistical expertise, they are committed to ensuring no child goes hungry during this festive period.

The Holiday Activity and Food Programme is free to eligible families. For more information and booking details visit www.salford.gov.uk/HAF
