The Bolton Civic Medal is designed to be the highest civic honour the borough can award, recognising outstanding achievement or distinguished service.
The first medals will be awarded later this year and will become an annual celebration of those who have made a major contribution to life in the borough.
Nominees should have a meaningful connection to Bolton either through their birth, their life, or their career.
Nominations for worthy recipients are now open and can be submitted by completing a simple online form before the deadline on October 25.
Elected councillors and Bolton Council employees will not be eligible.
The Mayor of Bolton, Cllr Andy Morgan said:
“We know there are so many wonderful people in Bolton going above and beyond to help others.
“That’s why I am delighted to be the first mayor to award the prestigious Bolton Civic Medal in recognition of the very best of our community.
“We’re now calling on local people, businesses, charities, and community groups to help us recognise these worthy individuals by telling us their story.
“We look forward to receiving your nominations.”
Nominations will be put before a panel of judges including the mayor, the council’s Chief Executive and councillors from all parties.
The first Bolton Civic Medal recipients will then be announced at the full council meeting on Wednesday, November 27.
They will be invited to a ceremony held by the Mayor in December where they will each receive the official Bolton Civic Medal cast in bronze.
