Fostering ingenuity at Stockport DigiFest aids locals in honing fresh digital capabilities

The month of activities in Stockport included podcast workshops, VR headset experiences, digital video and photography, hackathons, and even creating a robot chicken! People of all ages from the borough participated in these events, which ended with a digital inclusion seminar on 29 February.

The seminar explored the potential for digital technology to improve health in Stockport and the importance of developing digital work skills. Throughout the month, the Town of Culture themes were celebrated with various activities such as digital creativity, music workshops, fitness sessions, and food and drink promotions.

Councillor Jilly Julian emphasised the importance of digital skills in today’s world, highlighting the opportunities it provides for personal and professional growth. Residents who attended the events received support and encouragement to boost their confidence in using online technology.

Feedback from attendees praised the inclusivity and variety of experiences offered, with many expressing gratitude for the chance to develop new skills and connections. The success of Stockport DigiFest, a collaboration between Stockport Council and partners, was recognised with a nomination for the Substantial Impact Award at the recent iNetwork Awards.

As Stockport prepares to conclude its status as the Greater Manchester Town of Culture, a weekend of over 50 events and activities is planned for 23 and 24 March at the Town of Culture Weekender. Residents looking for digital support can contact the DigiKnow Helpline, visit the DigiKnow website, or seek assistance at their local library.
