A breakthrough season and an exceptional month of July for Mason Greenwood has not gone unnoticed by the Man United faithful. The teenager who’s spent his entire career at Old Trafford earned 46% of the vote on the Manchester United fan voting app, beating out Frenchman Anthony Martial who earned 28% of the vote. Bruno Fernandes who was the Player-of-the-Month the past 3 months came in third for voting at 26%.
It’s been a breakout season for the 18-year-old with 17 goals already, and 4 in July including a double against Bournemouth. Greenwood was named Man-Of-The-Match 3 times this month against Bournemouth, Aston Villa, and West Ham United. The teenager has found real chemistry up front with mainstays Martial and Marcus Rashford. The three have found the back of the net a combined 63 times in the 2019/20 season in all competitions.
The extended break due to Covid 19 seems to have been a good thing for Greenwood with his form soaring to new heights. His quick progression and contributions helped propel Manchester United to 3rd place in the Premier League, qualifying them for the Champions League for the first time since the 2018/19 season when they were ousted by Barcelona in the Quarter-Finals.
The English striker became the youngest player to score for the Red Devils in a Europa League match, when at the age of 17 years, 353 days he netted the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Astana. By winning this award Greenwood also becomes the youngest winner for Player-of-the-Month since Marcus Rashford won back in February 2016. (JSL)
