A mother and at least three young children were able to escape as the fire spread to the loft.
The fire also spread to a pair of neighbouring homes where another young family was able to escape.
Some people got treatment at the scene for smoke inhalation but did not need to go to the hospital.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) arrested two men aged 49 and 47 on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.
