Trafford Council cultivates eco-friendly talents at inaugural specialist career event

Exciting career and training opportunities in the rapidly growing ‘green sector’ will be on display at Trafford Council’s inaugural Green Skills Jobs Fair.

The event, taking place at Stretford Public Hall on Thursday 22 February, offers a fantastic chance to connect with employers and trainers providing work or training opportunities in the borough that focus on minimising the impact of human activity on the environment.

This includes roles that support our Net Zero carbon emission target and other environmental objectives, such as nature restoration and addressing the climate crisis.

Attendees can look forward to:

– Exploring the cutting-edge green training facilities in Trafford, like the Green Skills Academy in Trafford Park and Trafford College’s Green Technology Hub
– Receiving guidance and information on potential careers
– Meeting some of Trafford’s green employers with immediate job openings, including Aira, who will be sharing details of their available positions
– Enrolling in a short green skills bootcamp covering topics like renewable energy basics, becoming a Green Doctor, construction, and multi-trade skills
– Gaining insight into working with electric vehicle charging equipment, retrofit skills, solar panels, and smart home programming

Councillor Liz Patel, Lead Member for Economy and Regeneration, commented:
“This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals seeking to kickstart their career in the green sector.
“The push to reduce carbon emissions has led to a range of new and exciting job opportunities, with over 900 green employers in Greater Manchester. Trafford is home to a significant portion of these, offering an average salary of £40,000. There has never been a better time to secure a well-paying local job in this field.
“Promoting green growth is a key aspect of the Council’s strategy to combat the climate crisis, and I am thrilled to see our first Green Skills Job Fair underway.”

Local employer Aira, a heat pump and end-to-end service provider, will be recruiting for immediate positions at the fair.

Marc Clarke, Aira Head of Region North West, stated:
“There is a wealth of talent here in the North West, and we are excited to be hiring for various heat pump roles in the area, such as surveyors, designers, and installers. At Aira, we are dedicated to accelerating the decarbonisation and electrification of residential heating and aim to fill 8,000 clean energy roles in the UK over the next decade. This is an exciting time to join the Aira community, as we expand across the UK and open dedicated Aira Academies nationwide to provide exceptional training for the renewable workforce of the future. If you are ready to join the clean energy revolution, come and meet us at the Trafford Green Skills Job Fair to learn more about our vacancies.”

The Green Skills Jobs Fair will take place on Thursday 22 February at Stretford Public Hall from 10am to 12pm. To attend the event, simply email employment@trafford.gov.uk.
