Three Prison Officers Attacked by Hashem Abedi at HMP Frankland

Hashem Abedi, the brother of the Manchester Arena bomber, has reportedly attacked three prison officers at HMP Frankland, leaving them with life-threatening injuries.

The assault took place on Saturday, involved Abedi throwing hot cooking oil over the officers and using home-made weapons to stab them.

The Prison Officers’ Association has confirmed that the officers sustained severe injuries, including burns, scalds, and stab wounds. Following the attack, the officers were immediately rushed to the hospital, and police are currently investigating the incident.

As of Saturday afternoon, one female officer has already been discharged from the hospital after receiving treatment.

Abedi, 28, is serving a life sentence after being convicted in 2020 for his role in the Manchester Arena bombing which tragically killed 22 people. He was found guilty of 22 counts of murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to cause an explosion likely to endanger life.

HMP Frankland, a high-security prison in County Durham, holds prisoners who pose significant risks, such as Abedi, who are considered too dangerous for standard prisons. The attack has raised concerns about the safety protocols at such institutions.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the attack, and it remains under scrutiny for potential safety reforms in prisons housing high-risk individuals.
